Access Statement

Great Eckworthy is situated near Buckland Brewer, North Devon.

Upon arrival, you will drive down a stone driveway past The Granary on the right and continue down to The Barn straight ahead and The Cottage to the right.

We have a range of mobility aids for use here, if you would like to use them whilst at Great Eckworthy please do ask and they will be at here for your arrival. These include:

-A shower chair
-Adjustable seat raisers
-A toilet seat raiser
-A portable hearing induction loop.
-A pair of crutches.

Other specialist equipment can be hired from Mobility Shop Bideford | Stairlifts, Chairs, Scooters & Living Aids | A M Care in Bideford, who will be happy to help.

Due to the valley location and the historic buildings Great Eckworthy is not wheelchair accessible.

The Barn:

The Barn is Graded 5 Star Gold by Visit England, and is graded MI accessible under the National Accessible Scheme, meaning that it has been adapted for less mobile and elderly guests. This home is very popular for multi-generational holidays.

It is accessed through the gates straight ahead, please shut this after you arrive to secure the garden area. This is a dog-friendly property. There is parking on the gravel drive straight outside for 4 cars. The are three steps to the front door with handrails on the right. One further step takes you inside. Once inside the third bedroom, en-suite, lounge and dining area are all on one level.

The bedroom has:

-Touch lamps.
-Bedside lights.
-and a chair.

The ensuite has

-Toilet grab handles.
-Shower grab handle and one just outside the shower.
-There are extra hooks also.
-The floor is non-slip tiles.

There are two steps down from here into the kitchen with handrails on both sides. There is a further staircase taking you upstairs to the remainder of the property which has no further steps or unevenness. Outside there are non-slip tiles and gravel in between them. The hot tub, outside chairs and a dining table with 6 chairs. There are chairs with arms outside and inside. There are lights all around this property on sensors.


The Cottage:

The Cottage is a 5* Gold Visit England property. Dog friendly.

It is approached driving straight down the driveway to the right of the office in the middle of the drive. Parking on gravel is right outside for one car. There are 4 steps taking you up to the decking and to the front door. Once inside the kitchen/lounge/diner is all on one level and the flooring is tiled. Upstairs there is a bathroom and bedroom all on one level with no unevenness. The flooring is wooden floorboards.

The decking area is enclosed and flat and has chairs with arms as part of the outdoor dining.


The Granary:

As you come down the down this is the first property you come to on the right. Entrance is through the gates and parking for two cars is available on the gravel. This is an upside-down house. Two steps take you up to the non-slip tiled terrace area with the hot tub, table and chairs. A further four steps take you to the front door straight into the kitchen/ dining area and lounge. The flooring is wooden floor boards.

Steps takes you downstairs to the bathroom, dressing room and bedroom. The downstairs flooring is tiled.
